We all know families and communities that have been devastated in wake of the prevailing lockdown situation to contain spread of COVID-19 in Uganda.

As we face this global pandemic together, replete with anxiety, job loss, school and church buildings closings, and more… our hearts can feel heavy and burdened. But Worship leader and pastor, Isaac Serukenya urges that trusting God amid such uncertainty is possible and crucial for any of us.

Although it may seem difficult, the ‘Sinza Katonda’ song writer believers one of the most important things we can do right now, or in the middle of any crisis, is to worship God and not give in to fear.

Pastor Serukenya explained in an update 28 June that God’s unchanging character can give us a firm foundation when things feel unsteady and uncertain.

Like many Ugandans, Pastor Serukenya said he lost several close family friends to the pandemic. “Some of you might be going through the same or similar challenges and your back is against the wall,” he said. “But, I encourage you to find your rest in God – hold on to Him – in Him all things consist.”

To have faith in God during the hard times, Pastor Serukenya urged that Ugandans have to be rooted in His Word.

“He is an anchor, without that knowledge I would fall apart,” he said. “Though the ship is battered, the anchor holds me.” In spite of it all, God is still in control and yes, it is well! We shall make it through this storm. What I know about God tells and gives me confidence that, it’s going to be alright. Be intentional to spend time in worship.”

Serukenya likened Praise and Worship to a powerful weapon for fight spiritual battles. He urged Christians not to be distracted by what is happening around them, or let their own thoughts prevent them from truly focusing on God.

He continued. “Worship God even when all is not well. For the worshipper, that is all that we know. We sing, we play instruments, we use everything we can find to raise the sound and give Him glory even when our flesh is saying; no!” “It’s going to be alright! God is not dead! He is alive and working!”

With 1,048 new infections and 50 related deaths (as of 2 July), Uganda has so far confirmed 82,082 COVID-19 cases and 1,111 fatalities.
