As the world mourns the loss of Billy Graham, a special tribute to the world renown television evangelist is headed to the silver screen.
His grandson, Will Graham is set to portray the evangelist in an upcoming sequel to the film “Unbroken,” titled Unbroken: Path to Redemption.
The movie continues the story of Olympic and World War II hero Louis Zamperini and it features him coming to know Christ at a Billy Graham crusade.
The original film about that time of Louie’s life, Unbroken, was released in 2014. Director Angelina Jolie faced criticism for not being more direct about Zamperini’s journey to Christianity. The new film picks up where the first left off, and goes into more of the details concerning that faith journey.
“Like my father and grandfather before me, I’m blessed to have been able to answer a call to evangelism,” Will Graham told CBN News. “But knowing how God used Billy Graham in Louie Zamperini’s life, I couldn’t pass the opportunity to portray him in this inspiring story.”
“I’m not trying to fill his shoes. I want to be pleasing to the Lord,” said Will Graham, whose father is evangelist Franklin Graham. “If I just please the Lord, the Lord will take care of the rest.”
Recently posed with the question: “What’s it like being the grandson of Billy Graham?”
He replied, “The answer is that it’s amazing. It’s not amazing because he was the man on television, or because there were people lined up and waiting to see him. Those were interesting things that didn’t necessarily register at the time.”
“It’s amazing being Billy Graham’s grandson because of that gentle man who was willing to take time out of his schedule and humble himself in front of a multitude of people. It’s because he’s a grandfather who would stop everything to show love to his grandson,”
“Though the details have faded, I haven’t forgotten how that made me feel. Now, as a grown man myself, the impact of that beautiful gesture is even more precious,” he added.
