Psalms 42:11 – Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
The way to turn from life disappointments and miseries, is to remember the God of our mercies. In the Saviour’s name let us hope and pray. One word from him will calm every storm, and turn midnight darkness into the light of noon, the bitterest complaints into joyful praises.
You feel let down. You are in wonder: How did I miss this in the first place? How did this happen? And what do I do now?
We often grow bitter and frustrated. We lock ourselves up, and it all turns out to be an ocean of loneliness.
Disappointment usually leads to discouragement and through time it gets hard to get past. When we become discouraged, we turn into another person. This is not the person God desired us to be.
God wants us to be happy and love all people around us no matter what we going through. Fact is – this too shall pass. Disappointment and failure build character and patience, when allowed to do so.
When you feel disappointed, know that there are others who may be dealing with an even worse situation. At the same time, know that someone has gone through exactly what you are going through, and they have come out victorious, even much stronger.
David in Psalms 42 exhorts himself, therefore; he charges his own soul to hope in God. He expresses again the assurance that he would yet be permitted to praise him.
He regards God now as the “salvation of his countenance,” or as his Deliverer and Friend, and expresses the conviction that he would yet make such manifestations of himself as to clear up and illuminate his countenance, at present made dark and saddened by affliction; and he appeals to him now as “his God.”
Paul found strength and hope through his friendship with God. He wrote, “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
God says, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you” ( Hebrews 13:5). His friendship has sustained many over the years amidst criticism from friends and adversaries, financial challenges, educational disappointment, and broken relationships. God has a good track record; it makes sense to trust Him.
While we sometimes get stuck focusing on the here and now, our present situation isn’t the end of the story. ( 2 Corinthians 4:16-18). God’s plans are nearly always bigger than we think.
