On 14 May 2017, multiple tabloids across the world published claims that a pastor in Zimbabwe was eaten alive by three crocodiles while demonstrating how Jesus walked on water for his congregation.
Established Christian News sources have after thorough research reported that this story is fake.
Despite the fact that there was no reason given in any article for why a pastor and presumably his congregation from Zimbabwe was in South Africa to begin with, not to mention why a pastor would choose to demonstrate walking on water in an area literally called the “Crocodile River.”
Deacon Nkosi, a church member, reportedly said, “They finished him in a couple of minutes. All that was left of him when they finished eating him is a pair of sandals and his underwear floating above the water.”
Charisma News says; There is no record of Saint of the Last Days Church in Zimbabwe or otherwise. There is no record of a pastor Mthethwa.
Mashable reports: Besides the fact that the river in question is called “Crocodile River” (LOL) and that there’s (suspiciously) another pastor-walks-on-the-water-like-Jesus-gets-eaten-by-crocodiles story from 2016, a quick search on Google reveals that the story was originally published on a satirical website in February.
