Pictures are everywhere – all around us and one of the great things is there are no language barriers. Race, religion, background, upbringing or your native tongue does not get in the way.

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words – and these photographers proves it. This year’s Uganda Press Photo Award winners have been announced, courtesy of the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.

The award aims to promote the best of today’s photojournalism in Uganda as well as encouraging a new generation of photographers. It also seeks to remind the viewing public of the importance of a vibrant press for democratic development.

Seven finalists out of a long list of 130 photographers who entered the competition won the respective categories that included creativity, news, daily life, nature, portrait among others.
