It hurts to lose a smart-phone; these gadgets can be so dear, a clever city burglar grabbed mine at a city junction last November.
It was relatively cheap however, I shudder at the thought of how many have lost even more expensive devices! What happens when close to a million shillings is snatched from your taxi window in a blink of an eye?
That’s not the saddest question, worse still, when we own a phone whose inbox is subscribed to enough nudes that finally contaminate our view of sex.
What’s wrong when the only hindrance to sharing the gospel with your neighbor in the waiting room is the Facebook notification that just popped up on your messenger?
What’s wrong when the dining table (a place for family conversation) suddenly goes quiet for the next one hour because everybody is “thumbing?”
Not to forget, what’s wrong when Daddy is on email and can’t help daughter with coursework?
What’s twisted when my thumb clicks my Facebook notifications faster than it clicks my memory verse? What’s sadder than relying on my “retweets” and “likes” for identity and human approval, rather than Christ’s sacrifice for me?
I will offer my take, what’s wrong is this – we have replaced “substance” with “form”. We are a generation in love with the “tools” rather than their use.
We have all the apps installed except one, the “essence” app, so to speak, not even Googlestore can offer that – the only missing app on our smartphone – Essence.
Got it installed?
