Unidentified culprits burned down a born-again Church building in Bukomero sub-county, Kiboga district during the early morning hours, Wednesday.
Speaking to Uganda Christian News, Bishop John Asaph Sserugga said the attack on Bukomero Miracle Centre Church took place at 4:00 a.m., but there were no casualties.
The pastor of over 27 years believes the fire was intentionally set and there is an active investigation underway.
“Someone burnt it,” he explained during the interview.
Bishop Sserugga stated that the Church building of over 32 years, was ‘home’ to several Christians in the area, closed temporarily due to the prevailing government policies to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The Church leadership stated however, they have not lost hope following the tragic incident.
“My humble request to every one who’s willing to support us please we need 5 (five) Billion to set up a new one structure,” he said.
Several Christian leaders, worship pastors and church goers online have since responded to the development, calling it “terrible and tragic.”
“This is very sad,” remarked worshipper Isaac Serukenya. Recording artist Jackie Senyonjo additionally lamented the incident.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on 30th July 2021 announced the lifting of a 42-day lockdown following a fall in COVID-19 cases in the East African country. He however urged that Churches, mosques and other places of worship remain closed for another 60 days, after which a new review will begin.
