Renown Televangelist Bishop T.D. Jakes says many believers have become prostitutes to politics.
While addressing congregants at the International Pastors and leaders conference 2017 last week , the preacher said rather than focusing on Christ, many believers have chosen to focus on the political spectrum, and this constitutes prostitution.
This conference at The Potter’s House Dallas in Dallas, TX was attended by several pastors and leaders spanning 20 states and 17 international countries.
“Isn’t the problem the church finds, is that we have to hook our wagon to one political side or the other, when the truth of the matter is, we don’t totally agree with either side,” Jakes said at a panel that included Paula White and Pastor Judah Smith.
In Uganda, it’s becoming apparent that the role of religious leaders in politics and nation building is becoming a subject of hearty debate in recent years.
According to Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF), the danger of endorsing a political candidate by a certain priest or pastor is that the two will have been treated the same yet they ought to be different.
“Much as the functions of both are important and ideally, the church would support the government in implementing its policies, it is very inevitable that sin will be avoided especially temptations to be compromised by a certain political party.” The Organisation says.
Adding: “This does not mean that Christians are being denied of their freedom to choice, it is rather asking the Christian leaders such as pastors and Bishops not to front openly campaign for a political candidate in their church as this is likely to injure the flock’s perception towards the candidate hence their vote might be based on bias since it is evident that the spiritual leaders are highly respected and whatever they say is believed to be of God’s so they should totally refrain from the same.”
TD Jakes and his panel lead the participants through powerful sessions and workshops addressing the diverse needs of leaders to help scale their ministry or company.
