KAMPALA – A Ugandan Christian lawyer has attributed the fall of Sudan’s Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir to neglect of ‘divine instructions’, adding that state officials who intend to offer the ousted president asylum should seek the counsel of a prophet.
Mr Simon Ssenyonga revealed during an interview with NTV Uganda on April 17 that well known Prophet Elvis Mbonye of Zoe Fellowship Ministries “gave a word” concerning how Sudan’s leadership had to be handled.
“On 30th Sept 2014, the prophet gave a word concerning Northern Sudan. He said that there will be a change of leadership of Mr Omar al-Bashir. A direction was given that there is a way how leadership had to be handled, and it was never heed,” Mr Ssenyonga asserted.
Bashir’s 30-year-reign came to an end last week, after 16 weeks of protests, fuelled by among others deteriorating economic conditions.
He has been on the International Criminal Court’s wanted list for crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide in Darfur since 2005.
Mr Ssenyonga, who described Elvis Mbonye as one who has “given direction, especially concerning politics” said everything that God wants to do in a nation, will primarily start from the Church.
“Why are we caught up in this whole hullabaloo?” Mr Ssenyonga questioned. “When a word is given from a mouth piece of God, and the word is not heed, then you find yourself in a lot of chaos.”
He then quoted 2 Chronicles 20:20 which says (in part), “believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
“The words were specific, He [Prophet Elvis Mbonye] said that a newness is coming to that nation, and what you saw, the destabilization in Sudan was caused by God, it was orchestrated by God, because He is mindful that whereas a nation may be predominantly filled with muslims, the Lord Jesus died for everybody. He didn’t die for only Christians,” Mr Ssenyonga said.
Uganda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem Okello told media reporters the country would consider offering the deposed leader asylum if he applied, despite an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“One thing I am sure of is that the shaking of President Omar is as a result of God. For whatever step the nation of Uganda would want to take, if it wants to offer asylum to President Omar, it will be important for me to direct and instruct whosoever the authorities are to seek the council of the prophet,” Mr Ssenyonga said.
