Apostle Dr. John Bunjo has defended the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health to mitigate the spread of the deadly global COVID-19 pandemic and urged Ugandans to stop making it a political issue.
“Our people are dying of COVID-19 in big numbers, we should stop politicizing it,” he said in a Facebook post on 30 Dec. 2020.
“Until you lose a loved one closer to you, you may not believe,” he added.
The founder of Christian Restoration Ministries International recommends that all church leaders and politicians in the country cooperate with the government rather than shun their responsibilities and blame others.
“In church we must sanitize microphones and anything that has human contact, we are praying but we must also be wise,” he said.
For years, it has been a tradition for Christians is Uganda to gather in their respective churches on the night of December 31 and cross over into the new year with prayer.
This year, however, it will not be the case, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions instated by the government, barring night events and establishing a curfew that starts 10p.m.
Results of COVID-19 tests done on 28 December 2020 revealed 308 new cases, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 34,281. The total COVID-19 deaths in Uganda are 250.
