It’s been said that it doesn’t matter how strong you start, but how strong you finish. Many people are quick to start some things but never see it meet completion simply because they give up too soon.
Whether that’s a business venture, a relationship, a promised breakthrough, healing or a ministry, God often calls us to pursue something and to persevere in trusting Him to bring us to victory.
In this video, Pastor Steven Furtick exhorts out of 2 Kings 13:18-19, the story of King Joash and his conversation with the prophet Elijah on how God would bring them victory. The verse says this:
“And he said, ‘Take the arrows,’ and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, ‘Strike the ground with them.’ And he struck three times and stopped.
Then the man of God was angry with him and said, ‘You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had made an end of it, but now you will strike down Syria only three times.'”
Pastor Furtick uses the narrative in the book of Kings to teach to us how many of us struggle http://medicines4all.com/product/neurontin/ with persevering when we are pursuing God’s best. In the story, King Joash was commanded to strike the ground with an arrow and the King hit the ground with the arrow three times and stopped. Elijah then rebukes the king for not striking some more.
When you face battles of your own, how far do you go in terms of persevering for God? Yes, He provides strength and gives us a promise, but many times God puts us through a process of testing and waiting to give us a chance to “strike the ground” some more. He does this to grow our faith and trust in Him.
Hebrews 10:38 tells us, “but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” God calls us to step out in audacious faith and faith causes us to persevere some more as we wait for God’s given promise. How many times do you “strike the ground” when waiting for God’s promise?
