Speaker Rebecca Kadaga suspended plenary on Tuesday after Amuru Woman MP, Lucy Akello revealed that she found soldiers occupying both the Catholic and Anglican Chaplaincy prayer places.
The development sparked outrage among legislatures saying, “This is the highest blasphemy to all Christians.”
MP Odonga, who represents Aruu South constituency said he is not happy and demanded the Speaker to come with a strong explanation.
“But for Solomon Silwany to say that those soldiers were praying from Parliament chaplaincy is unfortunate. This is a religious war, a Catholic Jihad” he said.
Legislatures said the musical instruments in the Catholic chapel were broken and that the soldiers reportedly took off to the neighboring National Theatre.
“They are evoking our anger. They want to kill us. They want violence, we want peace,” MP Robert Kyagulanyi told journalists. “This is a sanctified place.”
“We shall proceed with the debate. They were causing the confusing even before the Speaker adjourned the house. I went to pray and I didn’t see any soldier in the chaplaincy. If the soldier is sighted near the church, he has a religion where he belongs,” One MP, refuting the claims observed.
Parliament is in day two since Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee chairman Jacob Oboth-Oboth tabled the main report on the Constitution Amendment (No 2) Bill.
Ms Kadaga said plenary will resume 2pm as she investigates the MPs’ claims.
