Service delivery has failed many African leaders – Pr Kayanja

'Hiding, sugar-coating and covering up issues never saves a leadership, instead it sinks it.'

The senior Pastor of Miracle Centre Cathedral – Rubaga, Robert Kayanja, has said many African leaders have brilliant plans, ideas, intentions and ideologies, but “service delivery has been their achilles’ heel.”

Robert Kayanja, who is also the founder and CEO of Channel 44 Television said leadership is about maximizing every opportunity for the betterment of the people that one leads.

He noted that leaders are like runners with a baton which they are supposed to pass onto the next leader, “without whom it is impossible to finish the race or mission,” he said.

“People do not want to hear leaders tell them what they are going to do, they want to be shown what they have done, period! Service delivery has failed many African leaders. They may have brilliant plans, ideas, intentions and ideologies, but service delivery has been their achilles’ heel,” the Pastor said.

These remarks are contained in his recently published book on the Holy Spirit labelled ‘Re-addressing-the-Imbalance.’

Pastor Robert Kayanja explained that leaders are meant to be a reflection of the law. If they break or abuse it, the Pastor urged that society becomes lawless.

Moving on, Pastor Kayanja stated that people are willing to follow a leader as long they can be assured that the leader knows the direction and destination he or she is taking them.

“Once that aspect is missing, trouble is bound to ensue. It becomes much easier for people to stab their leaders’ backs if they are not sure that the leader is taking them to the right place,” he said. “Coups, wars and instability in governments happen because the so-called leader began to take for granted their leadership role, and abandoned or forgot to stay true to the written down vision.”

Pastor Kayanja urged African leaders to research the root cause of the problems they face before they embark on any assignments. He said appointing ‘weak leaders’ hampers the nation’s progress and growth.

“As leaders, we have to research from the Bible – to know what the word of God has to say about something before implementing it as policy. Otherwise, agenda driven lobbyists will end up influencing your policies, forcing you to approve that which could curse your world and take the people back to a place that God is trying to bring them from,” he said.

“Leaders must Deal with the Details. It has been said that the devil is in the detail, but I say life is in the detail. Wisdom is in the detail, intelligence revolves around paying attention to detail. Cases are resolved because someone went deep enough to unearth the mystery,” he continued.

Pastor Robert, who described H.E the president of Uganda as a ‘Good leader’ noted further that in order for Africa to get and stay out of bondage, “we must heed God’s word.”

“It is the word of prophecy that will be a guiding light in times of uncertainty, therefore, we have to be attentive to hear God when He speaks,” he said.

“Self-destruction happens because leaders forget that the bar is raised for them and that they are being graded at level A++ and nothing less. It is all about performance and productivity,” he said. “A leader must function as the commander of an elite force, exhibiting professionalism, excellence and self-discipline before the army character can be reflected in those they lead.”

“In the digital arena, before you can have a website, you need to first secure a domain name. People love to have what they call their own. Leaders must understand the power of speaking faith statements over the people they lead. They must DECLARE by faith what they want to see in their nations,” he said.
