Active duty police officers in Uganda go through strict training in order to effectively execute their duties wheresoever they may be deployed in the country. That said, if their spiritual well being is overlooked, they often suffer in silence, which in turn affects their character, decision making and integrity.
Pastor Samuel Kasigwa, the global team leader, Uganda For Evangelism Ministries last week spearheaded an evangelical initiative at the Police Senior Command And Staff College, Bwebajja in Wakiso district where several officers are undergoing training.
Mr Kasigwa shared the message that true freedom and healing can be found in Christ. He further taught the officers how to integrate biblical principles in their day-to-day policing work.
“Many gave their lives to Jesus Christ,” he told Uganda Christian News on 12 February, 2020.
Through the meeting, Pastor Kasigwa helped the officers find freedom and manage inner struggles, most don’t deal with the root cause.
“I emphasized to them that one can be a God fearing officer in police uniform. I urged them to trust in God as they do their day to day policing work – embracing what is right and pleasing to God,” Pastor Kasigwa said.
Kasigwa told Uganda Christian News that biblical values clearly relate with all the ‘related’ laws of Uganda Police force “so the officers can draw several lessons from the bible to help them decide well.”
“I reminded them that they are servants of Christ in their respective officers because service to humanity is service to God. They should serve with all their strength and wisdom and the reward awaits from God,” the born-again Pastor said, emphasizing that promotion in any field of work only comes from God.
Just recently, a report released by the Human Rights Watch castigated police over continued brutality meted out to Ugandans. Pastor Kasigwa used his teaching at the training college to call for self-control and restrain among officers.
The Police Command and Staff College was established to cater for Intermediate/Senior/Strategic & Executive level Command and leadership training needs.
