Born-again believers at a Church in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb, were amazed when a private guard who was deployed to screen and check guests entering into the facility, suddenly walked down the aisle to receive Christ at the end of the Sunday sermon.
The guard, whose name and photo Uganda Christian News kept private for the safety of his job, told the Church Pastor he was moved by the gospel, and wanted to get born-again.
With a rifle tight to his shoulder, the guard narrated how for several days he begged his bosses to let him guard the church, attending to both day and night shifts, saying that he found comfort in listening to the messages being preached.
The guard said his family was involved in witch craft, a path he did not want to take.
This happened on 15th September, 2019.
In his sermon that day, the Pastor used 1 Kings 18:41-46 to share what Christians can learn about prayer from biblical prophet Elijah.
The scripture talks about how Elijah went to the top of Mount Carmel to pray for rain. As he started to pray, he told his servant to look toward the sea for any sign of rain. Seven times he said, “Go again.”
Eventually change come, Elijah’s servant was able to see “a cloud as small as a man’s hand arising out of the sea.”
The pastor said Elijah knew that sometimes an answer doesn’t come immediately, hence he remained committed for the long haul.
He urged the congregation to remain completely convinced of God’s faithfulness to answer prayer and provide for their needs.
“Elijah’s prayers reflected his earnest desire to see God’s will done. He watched and prayed. He did not give up because it did not rain when he prayed the first, second and third time. Keep praying.” he said.
He also made reference to 2 Kings 5:14 where Naaman, a leper, went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times before his miracle of healing could happen.
