A road accident has claimed four (4) Kenyan pilgrims who were among several heading to Namugongo for this year’s martyr’s day to be marked on June 3.

The victims died when they were hit by a privately owned minibus on Sunday morning, Standard Media, Kenya reported.

Two of the deceased were from Kisoko Parish while the other two were from Naitiri Parish, which are both under Bungoma Catholic Diocese.

An eye witness at the scene John Opondo from Kisoko who was with 150 other pilgrims told Standard Media that the tragic incident happened at about 5am when it was raining.

“A public service vehicle that was heading to Busia from Kampala rammed into them at Iganga, killing two on the spot while two died others at Iganga hospital,” he said, according to Standard Media.

“It was raining and the road was so slippery when the accident happened,” said Opondo.

Uganda Christian News learnt bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Kenyan government at the Busia border.

Pilgrims from all across the African continent trek every year to join their Ugandan faithful in remembrance of the Ugandan martyrs who lost their lives because of their faith.
