Musa Francis Ecweru, the state minister for relief and disaster preparedness has called upon Church leaders to rally Christians to embrace poverty alleviation campaigns by government.
The 52-year-old has said there are several State programs on poverty eradication that religious leaders should adopt and teach their flock so as to improve their lives.
Ecweru said this while presiding over the fundraising ceremony aimed at completion of Kocoge Catholic Church in Mukuju, Tororo district on Saturday.
This development comes days since the Head of state, President Museveni told a group of journalists on a tour of Kawumu Presidential Farm in Makulubita Sub-county, Luweero District that Ugandans can overcome poverty through modern agriculture even on a small piece of land.
Ecweru, who doubles as the elected Member of Parliament, representing Amuria County, Amuria District further told Tororo residents to plant fruit trees.
Each household can plant at least 10 to 15 trees, He explained.
Minister Ecweru said,” the government will continue helping the people of Tororo despite the ongoing political conflict that have torn the district apart.”
The function, organised by the state minister of health, Sarah Achieng Opendi, was also attended by several dignitaries including Tororo County South MP Fredrick Angura and Jennifer Fred Gumo.
Sarah Achieng Opendi said “most Christians have abandoned prayer because they have no church, something that has led to immortality since they are not spiritually nurtured.”
A total of Sh20.8m was raised in cash, Ecweru and Opendi raised Sh5m each, while the other ministers contributed Sh2m
