Today, Christianity is the predominant faith in six Asian countries, the Philippines, East Timor, Cyprus, Russia, Armenia and Georgia. The rise of Islamic extremism has, in some Muslim dominant areas, led to persecution and, in the worse cases, torture and death.

In many Muslim countries, however, including both conservative (the UAE) and liberal (Malaysia and Indonesia), Christians continue to enjoy freedom of worship, despite limits on their ability to spread their faith.

A 2015 study estimates 6,968,500 Christian believers from a Muslim background in Asia, while about 483,500 Christian believers from a Muslim background in the Middle East, most of them belonging to some form of Protestantism.
