Prisca Amongin has been declared winner of the guild presidential race, 2016-2017, in the recently held Uganda Christian University (UCU) guild elections.
The 24-year-old has attained victory against the other contestant with a vote margin of over 600 votes.
With 184 votes declared invalid, she attained 1462 votes, while major opponent Moreen Akatukunda gained 729 votes.
It is reported that Amongin took the top spot in nearly every faculty of the faith based institution save for Atukunda’s own law faculty where she proved a worthy adversary, garnering 252 against 208.
The UCU senate qualified only two candidates, both female for the Presidential race this year in October.
All male candidates were disqualified for a number of reasons that included indiscipline, failure to show up for vetting.
During a heated debate (UCU Decides) on Urban TV that saw Maureen Akatukunda emerge winner last month, she said that her deputy should she win will be anyone willing to serve irrespective of their gender, BUT, candidate Amongin Prisca insisted her deputy will be male because she believes in “Gender Balance.
