President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to attend the 55th anniversary celebration of the Runyankole-Rukiga Bible on 21st February 2020.
Organised by The Bible Society of Uganda, the event will take place at Booma Grounds in Mbarara district which is located in the western region of the country.
The anniversary celebration will be conducted under a theme inspired by Psalm 119:105 which says, ‘Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.’
Also expected is the launch of a Runyankole-Rukiga study bible, and a march through Mbarara’s major town.
The Runyankole-Rukiga translation was first published in 1964, and today includes both the Old and New Testaments, according to bible.com.
As often reported by Uganda Christian News, the Bible has over the years been translated into many languages from the biblical languages of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
5.6 billion people now have access to the full Bible in their language, yet more than half of the world’s languages still have no Scripture at all, according to a recent report by United Bible Societies.
Of the 7,350 languages in the world, United Bible Societies says the full Bible is now available in 692 languages used by 5.6 billion people.
The organisation says Braille continues to be the most popular and effective way for people with visual disabilities to engage with the Bible.
In 2018, Luganda became the 45th language to have a full Braille Bible, and visually impaired communities in seven other countries also received first or new Scriptures in Braille, with help of United Bible Societies.
