It did not go as earlier reported by media houses which expected the NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni to meet 3,000 pastors at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Monday morning.
He was rather represented by the First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, who graced the function as the guest of honor.
The event was organized by Miracle Centre Cathedral’s Pastor Robert Kayanja to pray for Peaceful elections. The Cathedral reported that over 10,000 pastors showed up for the convention.
Pastor Jessica Kayanja of the Girl Power Ministries, a non-denominational Christian organization while at the convention said, “President Museveni stood for us ‘Christians’ when overnights were being burned, lets not forget our history,”
Pastor Jessica used Bible verse Joshua 3 and 4 to endorse H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the right person that God has ordained to lead the Christian fraternity out of condemnation to the freedom they are now testifying.
These statements did raise controversy on social media as one Robert Dargie said, “As Christians leaders, it’s not wise for us to be partisan, or campaign for the regime. We shouldn’t present to prophesy, at least not now. Let’s leaves everything in the hands of the Lord. God and his People should see us clean, even after elections,”
One other Naphtah Tykes Ntairoki said, “I love the ministry and am proud to be a partner with it but this state made by Pr. Jessica is not true even king David before his death ordained his son Solomon to succeed him meaning that every one serves and rest. So if Museveni did it for us, let him quit and leave us in peace. I strongly believe, no regime will take us back… because the Bible I read gives me an assurance that there no one who can curse whom the Lord has blessed, God is the one who has given us peace and not Museveni,”
On the other hand, the first lady argued Pastors to know their mandate as influential leaders is not just spiritual because politics counter plates before them directly, therefore they should be concerned and responsible before the nation’s welfare.
During the five hour meeting, Pastor Robert Kayanja advocated for call on action by the government to include the Pastors to pray on inauguration days since major religious leaders take part yet ‘Christian Born again communities also hold a big number in the country.
