Robert Kayanja, one of the most influential Protestant Christian evangelist of the last 30-plus years turned 55 yesterday, January 24.
He celebrated his birthday with thousands of young men and woman, most of whom were of school going age and, a few from tertiary institutions..
When the hour arrived for him to cut the cake, the preacher called upon all Children born 24th January, to be part of the experience and serve the greater audience that expectantly watched on.
The Church served a scrumptious meal with a full truck offloaded of soda.
There was an output of gifts for the day’s ‘baby’; these ranged from flowers, sweets, dolls, teddy bears, piggy banks, clothes, cutlery, money envelops, and a one Wisdom brought him a live poultry bird.
“God bless you, ” he told each of the kids, with a handshake, as he received the gifts.
One young man amused the congregation when he came to hand in his gift well dressed in soldier uniform.
“Do you want to be a police officer?” Pr Robert asked. Yes, the young man responded, later revealing that his dad works with Police.
He said that Channel 44 will begin to broadcast a youth program called ‘Dream Challenge’, where children will be invited every Saturday. This program will challenge kids with quiz, questions, and for every well answered question, one will be rewarded.
The preacher advised the children against poor sanitation, encouraging them to wash their hands after every visit to the toilet. The also warned them against bad habits that could lead them to contracting AIDS, dropping out of school.
“You are going to grow, you are going to succeed, you are going to get a degree, your parents are going to be prosperous.” He told the Children, ” Do you know their is witchcraft, God is bigger than the witchcraft. Do you understand that you are unbewitchable? Do you understand that wisdom is coming? Give each other a high five and say hallelujah.”
Pr Kayanja was born in Masooli, Gayaza and is married to Jessica Kayanja, with whom they have one son, two daughters. He has been an evangelist at revival meetings, on radio and television for the greater part of his life.
The Church’s audience continues to grow by thousands following their daily healing and deliverance sessions labeled 77 days of Glory.
