Kim Burrell, an American gospel singer from Houston, Texas will not be appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week (January 5th, 2017), despite her scheduled performance of “I See Victory,” a song from the film Hidden Figures with Pharrell Williams.
Ellen DeGeneres canceled Burrell’s appearance after a video emerged earlier this week showing the singer giving a sermon in which she suggested gay people will die in 2017 because of their “sins.”
“For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show,” DeGeneres simply tweeted on Tuesday.
This was quite expected. DeGeneres, who is gay, publically came out in 1997 and married wife Portia de Rossi in 2008
“I came to tell you about sin. That sin nature… That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women, and it’s caused us pain on the body of Christ,” Burrell preached, according to the video.
“You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted… You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted,” the 44-year-old gospel singer said in the clip.
Furthermore, Burrell’s songmate Pharrell is speaking out against her comments.
Much as she has come out to apologize over her statement , outrage continues to pour out on social media.
“I’m not to be shaken,” she said. ” Because I am out here for God. I came on here because I love people. to every person who is dealing with the homosexual spirit – that has it, I love you because God loves you. But God hates the sin in you and me – anything that i against the nature of God. I am called to do what I am called to do, and that is it because I do it with passion and pray that all of you will.”
Octavia Spencer, Yolanda Adams, Chaka Khan, Questlove and other celebs are also speaking out against her sermon.
