This year, BET didn’t schedule “Sunday Best” at all, offering no explanation why.

At the red carpet for the BMI R&B Hip Hop Awards last week, “Sunday Best” judge Yolanda Adams said the reason they couldn’t do “Sunday Best” this year was because of Kirk Franklin’s busy schedule, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Yolanda added that the show is on hiatus this year to accommodate Kirk Franklin tour, he has been with the show since its inception in 2007.

She promised the show will return in 2017 for a ninth season.

BET has said nothing about the future of the long-standing gospel music competition show which has aired most of its seasons in Atlanta. The last season was in 2015, an all-star edition.

“We have not been cancelled so thank the lord for that!” Yolanda said.

Sunday Best is a reality television Gospel music singing competition series which airs on BET.

Each season, the show and its judges set out to find the best undiscovered gospel talent in America.

Finalist compete each week until a winner is crowned.

Current judges of the competition are Gospel singers Yolanda Adams, Kierra Sheard and Donnie McClurkin, former judges include Mary Mary, Bebe Winans & Cece Winans. Gospel singer Kim Burrell serves as the on-screen mentor, and the program is hosted by Kirk Franklin.
