Reinhard Bonnke passed away on Saturday at the age of 79. The celebrated German-born evangelist garnered the nickname “the Billy Graham of Africa” for his life-long evangelistic work on the continent.
“He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family,” his wife, Anni Suelze revealed in a statement on the late evangelist’s official Facebook page.
In 2012, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni hailed evangelist Reinhard Bonnke for his efforts to “provide spiritual support and growth to people.”
Museveni made the remarks during a meeting with the evangelist at State House, Nakasero.
The President welcomed Rev. Bonnke and his team saying Uganda is their country and they should feel at home whenever they are around.
Evangelist Bonnke saluted the President and the First Lady for the warm reception accorded to him and his entire team.
He prayed to God to bless them, their family and the entire country. Evangelist Bonnke, according to State House records seen by this website, commended the Ugandan clergy.
Reinhard Bonnke attended the Uganda Jubilee Gospel Crusade organized by the Evangelical and all the Pentecostal Churches in Uganda from 6th-10th June 2012.
This was the third time Rev. Bonnke had come to Uganda the first being 1989 and 1990 in Jinja.
Bonnke is survived by Anni and their children, Kai-Uwe, Gabrielle, and Susie, as well as eight grandchildren.
