Nothing great is ever accomplished without persistence, excellence and patience, reveals award-winning Nigerian Gospel singer who has gained national recognition and written more than 200 songs.

Sinach (born Osinachi Kalu) notes that in order to be successful in the gospel music industry, people must connect to your songs, because that is what it is all about – Good News.

She told K24 TV during an Up-Close and Personal interview on Talk Central that gospel music ministers need to understand that people need encouragement.

“People connect to my songs because that is what it is all about – Good News, inspirational and spiritually building.” She Said.

Because getting to the peak of one’s dream is not going to happen overnight, Sinach advises that the more important your goal is, the more discipline it’s going to require.

Erick Njoka, host of Talk Central asked Sinach; what is it Nigerians do that they are so big globally, that East African Artists do not do – Where do we [East African gospel music singers] go wrong?

“We work hard,” Sinach answered. “The Nigerian is passionate. The Nigerian will push the limits to get what he/she wants. The only thing that everyone thinks of is; I’ve got to make this happen. Nigeria is highly creative. I am not trying to blow a trumpet but that is what we are. We are thinking of the next level – competition. You see a Nigerian working over time to make sure he/she comes out on top. He is aggressively going for it.”

What is that silver lining people always talk about – you have to do something for people to appreciate your music, Erick Njoka asked again.

“Excellence. This means doing something that will command attention. That is what I do with my music. Last recording I did was in south-Africa. It cost me a lot of money. The lighting, sound was amazing. I brought in the best team. I flew in people from America, Nigeria. So we had an international team. You want to do something that commands attention? Excellence commands attention.” Sinach said.

“I have met a lot of musicians that want to be successful but they cannot spend their money. They are looking for sponsors to help them. You need to believe in your self first before someone else believes in you. Some cannot invest in them selves. So how is it possible that somebody else will invest in you. I see that a lot.”

“I also see a lot of people misplace priorities. Not knowing when to move and when not to move – so that wisdom comes from God. Then a heart to be patient and to serve with your gift. Serving with your gift is like seeing a need and meeting it. That is where success is.” Sinach said.

Adding: “Be willing to be excellent. A few days back, somebody brought in her work to me and said; I want you to listen to this work and help me promote it. I said to her; I cannot promote this. It is not excellent. If you want to do something, this is wrong – the picture quality is wrong, the packaging is wrong, the quality of the music is even wrong. Why don’t you take your time. Time can work on excellence.”

Over coming challenges.

Sinach: I have a lot to people I talk too who have done this before. Maybe not music, but they have done other things. I come from a good support system, I have a church. You have to have people that you can talk too and that can advise you. Have mentors and be patient with your dreams.
