Pastor David Bweyinda has condemned the aggressive tactics used by security officials to enforce order during electoral campaigns in the county.
In a brief statement on Sunday, the pastor wondered why tear gas and live bullets where fired at armless civilians during a scuffle between security and NUP supporters who were cheering Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi on his way to Lwengo District.
According to reports, the incident left several people injured including three journalists Mr Saif-llah Ashraf Kasirye (Radio One/ Ghetto TV), NTV reporter Ali Mivuli and Daniel Lutaaya (NBS TV).
“Lord have mercy on Uganda,” the pastor said.
“Why kill people without guns,” he continued.
“If they are criminals, arrest them and let it be the court of law to rule if they deserve death sentence, not you, the very people whose work is to protect them and their properties,” he said.
Journalist Kasirye was travelling with Mr Robert Kyagulanyi in the same motor vehicle when he was hit by a teargas canister fired by Police, leading to severe bleeding, reports show. Daniel Lutaaya was on the other hand riding on a Boda Boda when he was shot at during the mayhem.
Still today, one of Bobi Wine’s bodyguards identified as Francis Senteza Kalibala died in hospital after being run over by a military truck in Busega, according to Mr Kyagulanyi.
‘We are looking for digital evidence.’
Police used a press statement on Sunday to appeal for digital evidence to help detectives investigating circumstances under which the aforementioned victims sustained injuries.
Spokesperson Mr Fred Enanga, said chaos ensued after security team had “violent confrontations” with the Kyadondo East MP and his supporters at a check point in Kyabakuza after they allegedly defied the route plan agreed upon to Kyotera District where he was supposed to campaign today.
