Jackson Ahimbisibwe, lead Pastor of Mount Harmon Church – Lyantonde has been identified among those who died Wednesday morning when a taxi, registration No. UAX 715G travelling from Lyantonde District to Kampala collided with a Global coach bus and a Fuso truck loaded with cement at Kyawagonya in Lwengo District along Mbara-Masaka Highway.

The deceased was commonly known as ‘Pastor Kaakyera’, a name attributed to the area he came from in Rakai, before he moved to Lyantonde district where he has been feeding the flock by diligent preaching of the word.

As reported, Ms Scovia Birungi, the Masaka Region Traffic Police commander, attributed the cause of the accident to over speeding by the taxi driver.

14 people were recovered from the taxi and 3 others knocked dead along side the road , including a trader who was riding on a Bajaj Boxer UDZ 330Q.

Among others reported dead are traders who were coming from Kampala, having re-stocked what had been sold out during the festive season.

Head teacher of Kiyindi Primary School -Lyantonde, Dennis Nahora 22, a member of staff with Kaaro FM in Lyantonde have also perished in the accident.

The total number of people dead is still under debate. Witnesses at the scene say 17 people died, while Makasa regional Police authorities, through their RPC Maxwell Ogwal say its 8 people confirmed dead.

Okoth Obbo who leads the Lyantonde regional hospital says that they received 7 dead bodies to the mortuary, while those at the hospital in Kyazanga, Lwengo District say they received 4 of those that died at this accident.
