Fr Jacinto Kibuuka, known for popular prayer and healing sessions at Lubaga was on Wednesday suspended by the Archdiocese tribunal for disobedience.

The tribunal ordered him to stop his priestly duties, including celebrating mass and offering sacraments with immediate effect.

Following the tribunal order, Fr Jacinto Kibuuka announced departure from the Roman Catholic Church however, it was not until Friday that he stated that he is joining the Orthodox Church.

Commonly referred to as the controversial Catholic priest, Fr Jacinto has further clarified that he will pray to St Chrysostom, whose healing and deliverance prayers are more effective than Roman Catholic prayers.

“Priesthood is for life and no one can take it from me. I will continue offering sacraments and taking readings. However, I will do it in accordance with the Eastern Orthodox Church which practices the Antiochian Rite. I will pray to St Chrysostom, whose healing and deliverance prayers are more effective than Roman Catholic prayers,” he said during a press conference.

St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church was founded in 1893. Saint John Chrysostom is honored as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches, as well as in some others.

Fr Jacinto Kibuuka made the announcement at a press conference at his Mamre Prayer Centre in Namugongo, Wakiso District.

“Has he been permitted into the Eastern Orthodox Church? There are rules to follow. You do not just make announcements and cross over,” Archbishop Lwanga told the Sunday Monitor.

In response to Archbishop Lwanga’s statement that He (Fr Kibuuka) resisted a transfer to Ggoli parish, Fr Kibuuka says that Archbishop Lwanga unfairly banished him to Ggoli Parish on unleveled ground.

The priest was given a 10-year banishment and forbidden to talk to people, or make phone calls.

Fr Kibuuka also indicated that though he has forgiven his detractors, he will not forgive anyone who continues to libel him.

As the daily monitor additionally reports, Fr Kibuuka said the Catholic Church only allowed him to obey a superior who leads in truth and justice, and since there was no justice, he found it difficult to accept the suspension by Archbishop Lwanga, choosing to leave the Catholic Church.
