Two of Uganda’s top mainstream musicians have been baptised after receiving Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

“I am all yours GOD just use me in all ways,” Nina Roz (original name Nina Kankunda) remarked Sunday following her baptism.

Nina’s baptism was conducted by her spiritual father Bishop Arnold Muwonge, the founder and CEO of Nations Discipleship Enterprise (NDE) Network, a ministry dedicated to discipleship, equipping church leaders and community transformation.

“Victory belongs to God, I am humbled and grateful Almighty,” she wrote on Facebook. “I am all yours GOD just use me in all ways.”

Maureen Nantume, born 18th April 1984, first opened up about her new found faith in Christ on July 16.

I gave my life to Jesus, let His will be done,” Maureen said then.

Over the weekend, a video of her getting baptised made rounds on social media. The ceremony was officiated by the leadership of House of Prayer Ministries International.

“It’s been an overwhelming moment for me. For I feel blessed that I get to experience the power of God through my baptism. Thank you Lord. Thank you Pastor Bujjingo and the entire team of House Of Prayer Ministries,” she posted on Instagram.

Born to Robinah Nakitende, an onion vendor, the Daily Monitor reported that Nantume’s mother struggled financially to raise her and her two siblings. According to the news source, circumstances became worse when her mother died in 1996. She even worked as a housemaid at one point, earning a monthly salary of Shs15, 000.

“Believe it or not, God is the overall of everything seen and Unseen,” she said, following her transformation.

“I will brag about God until the end of me, for He has brought me from far and I am grateful,” she said in a subsequent update.

In 2020, Nina Roz openly confessed to having had a battle with drug addiction. Reports show that the songstress was on her way to recovery, and that she thanked God for saving her from the life that was almost severely damaged by the addiction.

Nina on Sunday quoted Psalm 23:6 which reads: “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

What Is Baptism and How Important Is It?

Christian baptism is one of two ordinances that Jesus instituted for the church. Just before His ascension, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20).

These instructions specify that the church is responsible to teach Jesus’ word, make disciples, and baptize those disciples.

Christian baptism illustrates, the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. At the same time, it also illustrates our death to sin and new life in Christ. As the sinner confesses the Lord Jesus, he dies to sin (Romans 6:11) and is raised to a brand-new life (Colossians 2:12). Being submerged in the water represents death to sin, and emerging from the water represents the cleansed, holy life that follows salvation. Romans 6:4 puts it this way: “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Very simply, baptism is an outward testimony of the inward change in a believer’s life.
