Whether or not Christians should celebrate Halloween can be a very controversial topic. For countries that observe this day on 31 October, some Christians join the celebrations simply by dressing up in a costume and having fun, seeing it as innocent and harmless.

Nevertheless, others are convinced that Halloween is a satanic holiday established to worship evil spirits and promote darkness and wickedness. So, who is right? Is it possible for Christians to celebrate Halloween without compromising their faith?

One of the county’s newest night clubs – The Establishment Club has announced a Halloween Costume Party in the Capital Kampala.

The club has urged its customers to come dressed to impress, because they will be rewarding with special prizes. The attire will be judged in several categories that include ‘scariest costume’.

Following recent years, Uganda seems to be adopting the habit. Prunes Restaurant, Wampewo Avenue and Kabalagala based Club Venom marked this day last year.

Americans spend over $5 billion dollars annually on Halloween, making it the country’s second largest commercial holiday. In addition, a quarter of all annual candy sales occur during the Halloween season.

Naalya based pastor Fredrick Mwaye has told UG Christian News that Halloween, no matter how commercialized, has almost completely pagan origins.

“As a logical thinking person, consider for a moment what you are celebrating and what Halloween is all about. Is the holiday uplifting? Is Halloween pure? Is it lovely, praiseworthy, or of good report?- Philippians 4:8.” He Said.

Adding, “There are many Christians who hand out tracts that share the Gospel along with the Halloween candy in the western world. The decision is ultimately ours to make. One thing that I know however, God is calling humanity to follow Him and to “come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing” (2 Corinthians 6:17).”
