Muslim extremists have ambushed and killed a well-known radio evangelist and Pastor in Aduku, Kwania District in northern Uganda following a broadcast in which the 64-year-old explained that Allah is not God.

David Omara who serves at Christian Church Center, was beaten and strangled after finishing his radio broadcast at about 9 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 31), according to his son, Simon Okut.

Speaking during an interview with media, Simon Okut explained that immediately after the broadcast, someone telephoned his father appreciating his presentation.

“He then requested him to meet somewhere with some of his friends. We left the radio station. As we arrived at the said place, there came out of the bush six people dressed in Islamic attire, and they started strangling and beating my father with blunt objects,” Okut said.

In their report published 6 November, 2020, USA-based persecution watchdog Morning Star News (MSN) quoted one of the assailants as saying, “This man ought to die for using the Koran and saying Allah is not God but an evil god collaborating with satanic powers.”

Okut said: “As they were hitting my father with blunt objects and strangling him, I fled to save my life. Two attackers ran after me but could not get hold of me.”

The preacher was buried on Wednesday (Nov. 4). however, area residents are still in shock to date, and saddened by the murder. They are fearful of further Islamist violence.

The Pastor’s wife and mother of 8 was treated for shock that rendered her unconscious, according to Simon Okut. After Electroconvulsive therapy involving stimulation of the brain, she still did not recognize people, he added.

“We need prayers and financial support for the Omara family at this trying moment, and the quick recovery for his widow,” a church leader told Morning Star News.
