Miria Matembe: Christian politicians are called to imitate Jesus

Jesus, the Great Political Leader.

By Dr. Miria Matembe

I know that Christians have a negative attitude towards politicians. They forget that politics is the science of managing society and that the Church is also managing society. So, we should resent bad management of society. Whether it is at political or Church level.

People forget that Jesus was the most effective and transformative politician that walked the earth. When you look at Isaiah 9:6, it says that the government was to be on Jesus’ shoulder. In other-words, he was leading a government. He came with a five point program (Ephesians 4:11). He chose 12 cabinet ministers, not 50+ like we see others do.

He worked for three years. Can you imagine? Not decades like other do. He never reshuffled his cabinet at all, never abused His ministers. Instead, He guided them, nurtured them, and taught them His mission and vision. And within three years, I can assure you they had understood it.

Jesus had effective mobilization of His followers. He was totally committed and focused on His mission that He had to die for it. And as a result, he shook the then established system very seriously. It is now over 2000 years but His followers are increasing every day. Blessed are those who follow in His footsteps. Follow the politics of Jesus Christ, because He was an effective politician.”
