House of Prayer Ministries International lead Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo has strongly criticized marriage vows in much the same manner as wedding rings.
Speaking to Christians during a lunch hour service on Thursday, the Salt Media founder claimed it is not in accordance with the Bible for couples to say “until death do us part” in marriage vows.
Bujjingo called the statement ‘a trap’ orchestrated by Satan.
He further purported “until death do us part” has led many to tentatively ‘dealing away’ with their spouses for the sake of ending the marriage.
“At the end of the day, you have to find means of bringing to death someone you are no longer compatible with,” he said in his formal statement loosely translated from Luganda.
“Where in the bible do we find “until death do us part”? Who did God instruct this? Did Abraham make this vow when marrying Sarah? Did Isaac make this vow when marrying Rebecca? Did Jacob make this vow when marrying Rachel. There are so many couples in the bible. Who among them made a vow “until death do us part?”” he continued.
It should be remembered that years back, Bujjingo, who came to the limelight over his controversial interpretation of “Holy Ghost”, criticized wedding rings saying they are bring used as idols to replace God.
Last year, Uganda Christian News reported about how Pr Aloysious Bujjingo sought to end his 29-year marriage with wife, Mrs Teddy Bujjingo citing irreconcilable differences.
What Church leaders say.
“The statement of Mr Bujjingo about marriage vows is not biblical,” Apostle John Bunjo of Christian restoration Ministries International said on Friday.
“Marriage can only be broken either by cause of adultery or death,” he said, quoting Romans 7:2 which says, ‘For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.’
Uganda Christian News understands that a team of pastors will on Saturday hold a debate on Bujingo’s plea to show him scriptures on the issue of marriage bond.
