Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira has survived an attack while conducting Easter prayers.
The attacker, identified as Kaddu Herbert (35), a resident of Makay Zone Rubaga, aggressively aimed for the Bishop with a huge stick, but was blocked off by the structure that leads to the altar, then quickly arrested by security operatives and ushers.
This was at Namirembe Cathedral – Kampala on Sunday, and the Vicar, the Rev. Festo Kalungi confirmed the incident.
Saul Ategeka, an eye witness at the church said, “I was in the Church my self, the man dressed in back cloth come from now where, but good chance he was arrested, l was sitting near Canary Mugume of NBS in the morning service (7 AM).”
“The man appeared to have a mental issue. When the Police asked why he had threatened the clergy and Christians with violence, he simply said that they were frustrating his plans,” Rev Kalungi said.
“I have seen the power of darkness during my service as Bishop but the most powerful thing is that I have seen the power of God,” Bishop Luwalira remarked later during the 10 o’clock service.
“This man’s intentions were to cause harm,” Luwalira added.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman told media the man came driving a Super Custom vehicle and parked it at the Church’s main entrance before jumping out.
By press time, UG Christian News had been informed that the man was under custody for interrogation.

He was elected by the House of Bishops of the Church of the Province of Uganda (Anglican) to serve as Bishop of Namirembe Diocese on 21st February 2009.
Thereafter he was consecrated and enthroned as the 4th indigenous Bishop of Namirembe Diocese at St. Paul’s Cathedral on 31st May 2009 – succeeding the Rt. Rev. Samuel Balagadde Ssekkadde who was Bishop from December 1994 to March 2009
From 1997 – 2000, He pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity at Uganda Christian University – Mukono. He returned to St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe and resumed his duties as Vicar. He was installed a Canon of St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe on 9th December 2007.
