The aim of the grand finale will be to evaluate the work and impact of the C.U over the past 60 years with a view of creating a new future for Christians and non-Christians in Makerere for the university, Kampala and Uganda and to unite the vast body of Christ on campus around an exciting energizing, challenging new vision.
The grand finale will take place at Makerere University Freedom Square on 12th of November 2022 from 10am to 5pm.
The theme of the anniversary will be “Behold, I do a new thing” and the anniversary will be honoured by Pr. John Ekudu as the Guest of honour, who at the same time is the former Dean of students, Makerere University and pastor of Kaberamaido Baptist church.
The keynote speakers will be Prof. Florence Muranga, Executive Director Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development and Pr. Laban Jjumba who is a leader at Intercessors for Africa.
Other chief guests will include Hon. Alfred Edakasi who is the current board chairperson at FOCUS, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, and others.
Speaking to Robby Muhumuza, a Communications Consultant and an alumnus of Christian Union, he expressed the benefits got from relationships and networks built over the years starting at Makerere University Christian Union.
“When I moved on from Makerere University to work with World Vision Uganda, I found many brethren that I had met and fellowshipped with at MUCU that provided smoothened relationships in ministry together,” Mr. Muhumuza said.
Important to note is that among the activities to be done that day will be to solicit funds to construct a students’centre.
Makerere University Christian Union is committed to support and participate in the grand finale and further extend its commitment in ensuring the furtherance of the gospel through ministering to students.
About Makerere University Christian Union
The Makerere University Christian Union (hereinafter referred to as C.U.) is a university-based fellowship, registered with the Makerere Students’ Guild, embracing Christians of all walks, promoting Christian growth, ministering the love of Christ on campus and beyond as we await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The C.U was started in 1962 by among others Mr. Daniel Kyanda and Bishop Michael Ssenyimba as a small students’ Bible Study group in the University Hall that later grew into a big fellowship on campus and later branched out into hall fellowships in the 1980’s, faculty fellowships (now colleges) in the 1990’s, hostel fellowships, mission teams and campus ministries in the 2000’s.
Several people from all over East Africa have passed through the C.U and been nurtured with some of them now occupying big positions in all sectors of the economy in Uganda and beyond.
