Bishop David Kiganda, the Founder and President of Christianity Focus Centre has joined the fight against Covid-19 with a comprehensive programme of activities that include providing assistance to indigent families affected by the lockdown.
On 21 May, 2020, the Kingdom Media CEO launched a project labelled ‘Together We Can,’ urging that one of the better ways the Church can express God’s love during this period is “through actions” and not prayer alone.
“‘Together We Can’ is a project that takes care of the needy people especially in this season where we are fighting Covid-19. The bible says in Proverbs 19:17, ‘Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward them for what they have done,'” Pastor Cindy Kiganda remarked.
“The world is shut. There are many families and people who live hand-to-mouth, but due to this situation they are not able to go back to work. This means they are not able to feed their families: they are struggling to put a meal on the table,” she continued.
“Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Bishop David Livingstone Kiganda was led to start the ‘Together We Can’ project. We want to appreciate all our partners who are standing with David Kiganda Ministries,” Pastor Cindy Kiganda said.
Bishop Kiganda flagged off the project with relief item distribution in the heart of Kisenyi, a central Kampala slum affectionately known for harboring poverty-stricken families, street children and orphans. Essentials given out included Sugar, Soap, bread, wheat flour, rice among others.
“We could not pay a deaf ear and say, ‘let the government do it,’ yet the Church is all about love. Christianity is all about love,” Pastor Cindy Kiganda said, quoting John 3:16.
“Loving people does not only happen when they come to church, we have to love them even in this condition,” she added.
Even as there are emerging signs of optimism in combating COVID-19, the demands of this season on pastors and church leaders are not likely to lessen in the near future.
This is because the head of State, H.E Yoweri Museveni on Monday extended several major lock-down restrictions for another 21 days.
