All over East Africa, Gospel singer Bahati, from Kenya has become the first gospel musician to take part in the music reality show Coke Studio Africa.

Bahati has won Groove awards for Best Male Gospel artist of the year category twice in a row for the year 2014 and 2015. This makes him the only East African artist to have achieved such recognition.

“I don’t know the criteria they used to research and choose me but I guess they wanted the top gospel artiste,” Bahati told the country’s Daily Nation‎.

The 22 year old has been paired with Nigerian pop singer Kiss Daniel and says it was a good surprise having to He with an artiste from Nigerian.

He however declined to disclose the name of the other artiste with whom he is about to release a song only saying he wanted it to be a surprise.

“I have to kill it because the church is looking at me. I think I have done enough Kenyan collaborations but you never know… its time I started winning the African market. If Coke Studio sees the potential then it means they have seen something big in me,” he said.
