There was jubilation both at Entebbe International airport and on social media as popular Nigerian Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the general overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) successfully landed in Uganda together with his wife Foluke Adenike Adeboye on Tuesday.
Pastor Adeboye, whose ministry has branches in 190 countries, was received by Church leaders including Pastor Jessica Kayanja, Bishop Joshua Lwere, Dr Joseph Serwadda, Bishop David Livingstone Kiganda and wife Cindy Kiganda, First daughter Patience Rwabogo, Nigerian High commissioner to Uganda, Etubom Nya Asuquo among others.
“I want to say a very big thank you to the President, his wife, represented by my sister here (referring to First daughter Patience Rwabogo) . I want to say a very big thank you to the Nigerian ambassador here. I want to say a very big thank you to all the people who have been involved in preparing the grounds for this visit
“This is my third visit to Uganda. I came first in 1993. I came again in 2011. I am here again, and if it pleases the almighty God, it won’t be the last visit. The fact that I am here the third time means definitely the first two times I was here have been pleasant walks. If not so, there would be no need for me to come back again,” Pastor Adeboye told press at Entebbe.
“Uganda had always been a wonderful country. Each time I came, when leaving, I felt like not going. I am sure if they ask me to choose another native country in Africa, probably it would have been Uganda. We are here again to pray for Uganda, pray for the government, pray for the people and spread the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no doubt about it that there are great men and women here that have been doing marvelous work. But the bible says two are better than one, that is why we add our little contribution to what they have been doing. We know the work of God will go much further than ever before,” he continued.
“While we are here, we have a ministers conference. We have come in because the bible says; iron sharpens iron. We have come to share, if they have questions they can ask. I know some of them have probably been in ministry before me. I became a Pastor in 1975, but I know there could be some who were born after I became a minister. So, there could be one or two things that I have already learnt, and experience they may want to share from,” he said.
Adding: “It has also pleased the almighty God to make The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) a world success story of what the almighty God can do when an organisation belongs to Him. The Redeemed Christian Church of God for-example was started in 1952 by my father in the Lord
Rev. Josiah Akindayomi (1909–1980) with 12 people. For a Church to be started by an African, in Nigeria of all places, and then grow all over the world, with branches in places you would not even think about like Libya, Iraq, Iran, it means there is something that God can do with whatever any minister started and is working upon. My prayer is that the victories that God has given us, in The Redeemed Christian Church of God will be given to the ministries here too.”
A few years back, Newsweek listed Pastor Adeboye as one of the world’s 50 most powerful people.
