Popular Ugandan gospel musician, Joy Tendo Mata has joined the list of Church ministers who are set to join politics. The ‘Tewali Mbeera’ hit singer on Monday come out publicly to show interest in running for an elective position come 2021.
Tendo said she will be vying for the Nakawa Parish L.C 3 Woman Councillor seat. She made it official by dropping a warm up campaign poster, fully clad in National Unity Platform (NUP) attire.
The political wave in the country seems to have gotten so intense that several influential Christian ministers including Pastors want to influence political decisions by participating in the 2021 polls.
Already, more than three well-known Pastors made their political interest public in a bid to warm up for early campaigns.
Mr Fred Mwesigye, the lead Pastor of House of God Worship Centre Ministries International Church situated in Entebbe, Mr Joseph Kabuleta of Watchman Ministries, Apostle Ben Israel Sseninde and Elton Joseph Mabirizi intend to challenge veteran leader Yoweri Museveni for the presidency next year.
When Government announced a set of regulations under law for the arts Industry, Joy Tendo is among several key players that come out last month to decry the regulations, on grounds that there is lots of unfairness in them.
“Government of Uganda, we shall not be quiet about your repressive regulations against our talents,” she said then.
“Our voices are God-given rights for the major purpose of giving life rhythm. Do I have to seek your permission to sing praises to my God? Do I have to pay for a license to worship my God?,” she questioned.
“My talent is my right and no one has a right to take it away. This latest move to gag every creative is only going to create more hate for government.” “I will give hope to nations through my voice without fear or seeking a license.”
‘You have my vote’
Joy Tendo’s move to join elective politics was received with joy on social media, with many, including Dangelo Busuulwa, Justine Nabossa of the ‘Oli Katonda’ fame showing their support.
