His mother used to teach Sunday school when he was really young. At that time, award winning gospel music artiste, D.Reign had a deception that because he attended church service on Sunday, he knew God.
He used to sing many of the popular Sunday school songs that describe God’s love for Children but, D.Reign was never interest in having a relationship with his Creator.
“The honest truth is that my parents were praying for me, they taught me the word but, I didn’t want anything to do with God.” The singer said as he narrated his testimony during the ‘Power FM Presents’ concert at Watoto Church on Thursday.
“I didn’t want to believe there was a God. I had everything I needed. My parents were providing everything that I ever wanted. There was no need for me to believe there was God.” He said.
At the age of 11, D.Reign discovered his passion for music and started playing the piano. When he reached secondary school, this dream grew bigger as he invested in secular music with the intention of getting famous, money, fame, girls and nice cars.
“Why? Because when we see these [secular music] guys on TV, we have a deception that they are leaving a good life, that is the deception I had myself. The honest truth is that it was all a lie. 6 years down the road I started using the best studio. To add to that, using all kind of drugs. At a very tender age, I think I have used drugs for most of my life. 15 years of drug addiction.” He revealed.
“For a very long time, I lived by pleasing people. When I was ‘high’, the drugs would take me to a place where I would not have to face my failures, anger, rejection. I would not have to face my low self esteem. I thought I was doing well but, every time I stabilized, it was worse than before.” He said.
“But let me tell you something, Jesus is crazy about us. When scripture says that every knee shall bow down, it has nothing to do with judgment, it has everything to do with his love for man. People tried to tell me that drugs were bad but, didn’t have a solution to get me off the drugs. People told me sleeping around was bad, but they didn’t have a solution. The bible says that when we were still sinners, He loved us. You might be thinking that no body understands you, Christ understands me.” He said.
“Jesus has walked with you. He has loved you. When I was still in the bar messing up.. yes! He was there. I remember I had reached a point where all things I had wanted I had started receiving. I was ranked second best music producer in the secular world. I had started going up ranks. people had started seeing that D.Reign was going somewhere but on the inside, I was going down the drain.” He said.
D.Reign said was earning three (3) million in a day, yet at night, he would spend it on alcohol and in the morning ask for 100/= to buy a cigarette.
“I didn’t know the definition of true happiness and joy till I met Jesus. In my room one day, I told God, “growing up my mother told me you are God, but i didn’t believe there is a God. If you are there, show up.” To tell you the truth, that night, He showed up. Friends, money can never define you because it comes and goes. Insurance can never insure your life. The only person that can insure your life is Christ Jesus.” He said.
“Some people may call us boring, but they don’t know what joy feels like. As I speak not, I need nothing, I have all things through Christ Jesus. And when you are in God, it can only be from glory to glory. Never be ashamed of the gospel. The bible says it is the one that has the power to save.” D.Reign stated.
“I went in a rehub for a full year and here, I was learning about Christ. All that while I was amazed at the revelation of who He [Christ] is. “This is just the start. Your eye has not seen,” He would tell me. Then He would show himself in a new way.” D.Reign said.
