Gospel singer Israel Houghton had been put on indefinite leave as a minister at Joel Osteen‘s Texas-based Lakewood Church, a position he held for five years.
The action come amid talk that surfaced about Houghton announcing his divorce with wife Meleasa after 20 years of marriage, as well as the super-church’s website mysteriously eliminating him from its website.
Months after stepping down from his position as worship leader he was welcomed back with open arms when he attended a service last week.
“SO refreshing to be home @lakewoodchurch this morning sitting next to this Queen @dodieosteen hearing my friend @realjohngray bring a powerful message. @dadra @imstevecrawford @petewilsons & the team led an amazing worship experience. My heart is happy today. #ILoveMyChurch,” he wrote in a message on Instagram where he shared same photo of himself with Dodie, Osteen’s mother.
After announcing his decision to step down from his position at Lakewood Church, Houghton assured his supporters that there was no fallout out between him and the Lakewood Church staff or the Osteens.
