“I am amazed by the way God answers prayers. The accuracy of our God; It is just amazing, this is a move of God. Only God can do this. The lord said they are coming. How many are glad that we did not stop with 77 Days of Glory, season two? Otherwise I would not have seen Dr Propa – Pr Kayanja
It so happened that Pr Robert Kayanja was dealing with substance abuse on day 24 of the 77 days of Glory, season two revival meeting when popular musician Dr Propa made a surprise turn up at the Church to confess Christ as his personal Lord and savior.
“My name is Dr Propa,” He told the congregation. “Many call me ‘Omulasa we’Kampala’ because of my actions.”
Dr Propa was born in 1983, Kitovu – Masaka hospital.
“I killed my own mother. When she gave birth to me, she did not survive. I’m not just creating this story – this is the story of Dr Propa, the one you have seen singing for over 10 years now.”
When no one claimed the newborn at hospital, Dr Propa was adopted 3 months later. This new family had just welcomed their first child, however they took him in and raised him as their own.
The singer told believers on Wednesday night he never got to know any of his biological family members.
“In life, you should do something for someone without expecting anything in return. There is a lady called Nabukeera that got born again at the beginning of the 77 Days of Glory. It is salvation that led to her separation from my foster father, Ssozi Aloysius.”
“That man together with his wife signed papers, and raised me with their child. They raised me as though I was a twin to their child. Most people can’t do that. You raise your first child and bond with him more. But that lady raised me up without segregation.”
Things got messy for the singer later when his foster father fell for his foster mother’s younger sister.
“I was forced to leave home [Mpigi] in 1997,” He said. “I was additionally traumatized on finding out that I didn’t have my parents. This tore me apart. I started street life. Those who remember me in Katwe [The largest of eight slums in Kampala], I hustled in that place.”
Dr Propa later moved to Bugerere following track of a gentleman, Hajji Dirissa Muwonge that was related to his foster mother.
“When I reached there, he said; son you cannot dig. He took me to the home of the late Sam Ssebagereka – most of you know him , he was a minister in this government and the former – together with his wife Victoria Ssebagereka who is still alive.”
“God is amazing in the way He does his things, and He does them for a reason. The day I was taken there, they had received a German visitor who sought to take care of less privileged children. I topped his list. I went to Yale High school, with the blessing following me.”
“Time reached and I told Mrs Ssebagereka I was tired of school. There was a dark spirit following me because every time I drew close to my victory, I would hate my self and mess everything up. I would withdraw…I have lived life all along, but with a strong hold that I have come to break today. My mom has for long told me that I should get saved – she knows why. Among singers, I’m top ranked as a drunkards. I have had enough of this.”
Dr Propa told Christians that he loves alcohol to the point that he built his own bar along Buziga. He would go to this place early to drink, taking anything alcoholic.
“When Hon Nambooze came out to condemn alcohol consumption, I was among those who recently released music praising and bragging about the habit.”
He revealed that the only way he can sleep is after a few alcoholic drinks.
“I have moved to all hospitals to find out why I have difficulty in breathing, however when I take alcohol, it stops. I was challenged on Sunday. My wife has been speaking against this habit. On Saturday, I took a lot of beer in that I couldn’t get my self home.” He said, adding that by the time he got there, he found his wife seated waiting for him to return.
“She tied me up and beat me. As you can see, these are teeth marks and fresh wounds. I’m fed up,” He said. “I knew she loved me, that is why she did what she did.”
“Pastor is against bars. When I go home today, I’m closing down that bar tomorrow though I built it my self. I’m making 10 years in music this year. I have had enough of secular music.” He said.
Pr Kayanja was amazed by Dr Propa’s testimony.
“I am amazed by the way God answers prayers. The accuracy of our God; It is just amazing, this is a move of God. Only God can do this. The lord said they are coming. How many are glad that we did not stop with 77 Days of Glory, season two? Otherwise I would not have seen Dr Propa.” Pr Kayanja said.
Eddie Yawe of dream studio thanked Pr Kayanja and requested him to receive them [artistes] the way they are. He urged that some of them are retarded from coming forth in fear.
Ssubi Jonathan Edwards, commonly known as Dr Gordon Ssemagongya, an actor with the Ebonies also thanked the Pastor saying that he is born again.
“Pastor I’m a believer. I’m born again. I have heard a lot from my friends about the 77 DOGs. So I decided to come and fellowship with you. I love God, I love Jesus. He has made us what we are today.” Jonathan said.
“When we come here, some people think we have come to seek riches from you. Actually standing here, I am shaking; now sure what is wrong with me. I’m coming from a show. I have taken some beer. I want to saw my first seed, I have been following channel 44 for the 77 days of Glory. ” An actor with the famous ‘Akandolondoli’ comedy program that airs on a local station said.
Pr Kayanja together with the congregation prayed for Dr Propa and dedicated him before God. The Miracle Centre senior Pastor said warned the church against alcohol saying it is a spirit and it wastes a lot of money.
“God is going to do a work in you. You can do what He called you to do and influence more people,” Pr Kayanja told Dr Propa. “God anoints and uses the same person, that the world may know that he has power. He chases out all demons and turns you into a testimony.”
