The swearing-in ceremony for the newly-elected country representatives of the 10th Parliament started yesterday (Monday) morning at the South Wing of the Parliamentary building.
These included gospel artiste, Judith Babirye who was voted and announced winner of the Buikwe Woman Member of parliament seat, defeating the incumbent MP, Dorothy Mpiima in the NRM primaries.
Judith Babirye is known for inspirational Music, and famous for gospel songs like “Yesu beera Nange“, “Omusaayi“, “Omukisa gwa Mukama” and “Maama”, among others.
She stepped into the parliament Building dressed in a bright yellow ‘gomesi’, media reports indicate that she says she spent three hours preparing for the event after visiting the salon at 7am.
She will Join several MPs, especially the new ones, for induction and orientation by the Parliamentary Commission.
In an interview with journalists, Judith said that she will be able to balance music and Parliament.
“I will use my time at Parliament to speak out for Ugandans. But when I am in my free time I will be working on this great music. If I fail to get the time I will teach young artistes to sing the music using the gift that God has given me.” Judith stated.
Parliament Director of Communication and Public Affairs Chris Obore has confirmed that the 10th Parliament will have its first sitting on Thursday and the outgoing 375 MPs of the 9th Parliament, led by Ms Kadaga will have a farewell party on Friday.
