Ugandan gospel singer George Lubega Timothy, commonly known by his stage name Exodus has told his fans never to allow the past determine their future, and above all know God because with knowing Him comes favour.
His encouragement follows a catastrophic past he has on several occasions opened up to during media interviews.
“I once at a tender age was on the streets with no hope for tomorrow, all we did was live for the day. I found Christ 2002. I found hope and my Faith was stirred to believe that tomorrow was going to be better, it was going to be happier – it was going to be fulfilling.” The 32-year-old told his fans this week.
Exodus was raised by a single mother, who died when he was 10 years old. He was then taken up by his polygamous father until the age of 12. Rejected, abused physically and mentally from that point, Exodus recalls moving to the streets of Kampala for survival.
He started feeding from dustbins, smoking marijuana, sniffing petrol and pickpocketing for a living around Katwe, Dewinton road and Owino market which was his base.
In 2001, he left the streets for Nakulabye in Kiyaaye where together with a friend, Dan Kimuli, began a new life.
He later joined Miracle Centre Cathedral’s orphanage, and was introduced to the late mama Irene Gleeson of the Irene Gleeson Foundation (IGF) based in Northern Uganda.
“God brings hope and he swings gates wide open for you to walk through. He makes your name great among men. He blesses the works of your Hands and changes lives around you! Today I’m an Icon and a father giving hope not only to my children but to many of my Friends across the World. ” The Singer further revealed to his fans on social media.
