When you look at other people’s families and you look at your own family you might want to compare and maybe look down at yourself. You might conclude that you and your family are not good enough for God to ever want to uphold.
When you look at the lives of other Christians you might think that they are so good; Surely, compared to them God will never want to be associated with such a person as you.
But how true is that mental perception? One of NTV Uganda’s influential newscasters Joel Ssenyonyi has revealed some really hardcore statements about his faith that will confirm to you that God is of grace and of a second chance.
During an interview with The Observer, the 29-year-old revealed that he doesn’t know what he would be today without the Lord.
On being ambitions, Jeol says that when he was about to finish S6, he told his colleagues that during his vacation, he was going to work on TV.
“They were like Joel, there you go with your usual dreams. I said okay.”
Had someone promised Joel a job?
“No. I am a go-getter. When I see something, I aim at it, boom! Some of the time it does happen. So, when I got into vacation, I began to go to all these TV stations. I said I am here, I would like you to hire me. I remember one particular one, as we chatted and laughed about it and this guy was saying, now young man, what are you doing here?” he stated.
“I said I would like to give you an opportunity to hire me. He looked at me and laughed. I remember eventually UBC advertised looking for anchors. I applied, with nothing. I didn’t have even the senior six results. People applied with master’s degrees, diplomas and so on. But somehow I had this gusto in me of it will happen. So, we go, we do interviews and cross over to the next round, like that, like that,”
“I remember the final round and these people were asking how old are you? I am like, I am 19. They say, you are 19! Are you at campus or what? I say I am in S6 vacation. My results are not out yet. They looked at each other…but they liked what I offered. They chose two us: myself and a lady, to begin working,” he further explained.
Joel clarified to the Observer that he is a born-again Christian, in a personal relationship with God.
“I am not religious, even Jesus hated religion when he was here. I got born-again when I was six years old in my P1. Along the way, I slipped a little bit, not gravely, though. I recommitted my life when I was 16 in S4 and got serious with the Lord, and I still am,”
Later joining NTV, the HIT Awards 2016 TV Personality of the year nominee says that he loves what he does. Joel says that the world is changing; if you are not relevant, you will fall off the deck, whether you like it or not.
“And I have this tenet that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing right. I give it my all. I am going to Law School, I am going to do my degree in law…I have come to a point and realized that education should prepare one for life, not for a job. You should go and acquire knowledge for certain things, one of which can be a job,” he says
God is able to turn your life around and make it a testimony that millions upon millions will read about just like Joel!
