And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars – Judges 16:25.
In the journey of salvation, there will be times you encounter a spirit of mockery. You come to a point when you are mocked, because of your salvation or because certain aspects of your life haven’t turned out like expected. There are many people who have given up and others who have made wrong decisions because of mockery.
They brought out Samson to mock him. Nehemiah too was mocked by Sanballat and Tobiah while they built the wall in Nehemiah 2:19.
Thank God for Nehemiah because he didn’t pay attention to the mockery of scorners, he was focused and he told the people about the goodness of the Lord. He never seized.
All of us experience mockery. But we must learn how to silence certain voices. Otherwise, they can lead to bad decisions.
And the goal of mockery is to make you lose track so that you lose your vision and dreams.
But Nehemiah teaches us to stay focused and not give attention to mockers. They were almost losing courage but Nehemiah kept encouraging the people to build.
Nehemiah 4:1-2: But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews. And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?
Because we have given our lives to Jesus, some people call us feeble and weak. But making a choice to serve God is not a mistake. Serving God is not a job, it’s a call.
Before people mock you, they despise you. But you must know they don’t have the end of your story, they are not determinants of your destiny. There’s one who says “I know the plans the plans I have for you”….
There’s no man who stood in the face of mockery and failed, they turned out victorious.
Don’t trade your salvation because of mockery. Don’t compromise. Be like Nehemiah.
Jesus too was mocked Mathew 27:39-44, even on the cross, they spat on him and put a crown of thorns on his head, but he didn’t curse them. He prayed.
But shortly after, there was a darkness and a shaking, the mockers ran away. The temple curtain tore and the tombs opened. And one of the officers exclaimed, “indeed this was the son of God”.
And when He resurrected it was a different story.
You are being mocked because of the position you are in, but it isn’t permanent, be patient for a while.
Pray and shut your ears to the mockery of the enemy.
