The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Mrs. Janet Museveni has told media houses to help government wake up Ugandans.
Speaking at a press conference in Kampala, Mrs. Museveni told media reporters that they are given information so that they can use it to inform the public.
She strongly spoke against laziness among Ugandans, urging that it is not appropriate for parents to abandon their role to Children, claiming that it is the responsibility of the government.
“I’m looking to you now to support us by going out there and informing people of these concerns.” Janet Museveni said yesterday.
“You must really help our people to know that unless they take up responsibility to do things for themselves, we are not helping them by trying to protect them. We cannot live their lives for them. In order for them to live, they must work. Even the bible teaches us that those who do not work should not eat. ” She said.
Mrs Museveni said that this is a competitive world where every person is working had to survive. She however noted that in Uganda, this is not the trend.
“This is a world where people compete to live. Our people are competing basically to sleep. And they want their children to be brought up by government,” She said . “Since you are the ones bridging the gap between us and the community, please I pray that you will be used of God to really take that information and inform them appropriately .”
Adding: “Please use your work in the media to inform our people, to wake them up. Be their alarm, not to sing a lullaby for them to continue sleeping.”
