A preacher is to this day moving around his neighbourhood in London with a microphone and loudspeakers to bring the gospel to people confined to their homes because of the coronavirus lockdown.
Pat Allerton told the Associated Press he has been sharing the Gospel with residents around his home in the Notting Hill area since the lockdown started last month.
Allerton explained that at first he used his car during the exercise, before resorting to a bike in order to incorporate his loudspeakers and generator.
“So now I go on a big bike ride,” he said. “I’m carrying quite a bit of weight, as you can see, with the speakers and the generator so I’m fully independent, and I just get out and cycle and get around the parish and round about local streets looking to bring a bit of hope.”
Britain has been under a government-ordered lockdown since March 23, a state of affairs that is expected to be extended, according to The LedgerNewspaper.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in London hit 18,472 on 14 April 2020, according to figures released by Public Health England.
The capital has had about 20 per cent of the UK’s cases, reports show, and has seen a disproportionate number of deaths from the virus.
London, like among other countries battling the virus including Uganda, ordered all churches to close in-order to contain its spread.
Allerton told The Telegraph that he had worried he might be pelted with eggs for his street preaching.
“But actually everyone’s very kind,” he told the newspaper. “It’s had an amazingly positive response. People clap, they whoop … I’ve been asked for an encore once.”
