State Minister of Ethics & Integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo has added his voice to the recent statement released by police on raiding the LGBTI pride event last week at a night club in Kampala.
Min. Lokodo says that the gay pride week gathering was foiled because promotion of homosexuality in Uganda is “illegal and criminal”.
He additionally says the gay pride events in the country are organised with influence of “some foreign forces”, stating that the government has rehabilitation programmes for gay Ugandans.
“While we emphasize promotion of homosexuality is criminal under Penal Code, there’s no violence against LGBT. No one was injured. Penal Code Act of 1950 (Chapter 120) Section 145 on unnatural offences is very clear,” he has told journalist in a press conference on Monday.
In direct response to Lokodo’s claim, Ugandan LGBT activist Frank Mugisha has taken to social media saying one person jumped from the 4th floor when police raided the premises.
Following the raid, Uganda Pride Committee also issued a statement postponing the event.
